Jana comes from a musical family and grew up singing at home, at church and at school. In high school, she was a frequent soloist in church and an All-State choir member. Driven by of her love of music, she moved to Austin, TX, in 1999 to attend the School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin. She studied voice under David Small and toured with the University of Texas Concert Chorale and the University of Texas Chamber Singers. With these ensembles, she had the opportunity to sing at the White House, as well as Carnegie Hall, where she sang the soprano solo in Mozart's Regina Coeli. Jana has also been a member of two professional-level choirs, the Shreveport Chamber Singers and the Austin Civic Chorus.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Music and teacher certification in 2004, Jana taught music in Austin ISD for five years. She was given the "Teacher of Promise" award in 2005, and the "Teacher of the Year" award in 2008. She was a vocal adjudicator in solo and ensemble and region choir competitions. She also enjoyed teaching private voice, guitar and piano lessons.
Jana sings regularly at her home church, where she has directed one of the student choirs since 2006. She enjoys the rich culture and support of the arts in the city of Austin, where she lives with her wonderful husband Chad and beautiful daughter Megan.
